The charming Mr Barker has been a judge on ANTM since
the very first series. The only judge in fact (apart from
Tyra herself, of course) to last the distance!
We see Nigel as adding a welcome note of calm to the
judging panel – although he does constantly disagree with the other judges, always fighting his corner for his views!
As well as his judging duties, Nigel dazzles us with his talents
as a photographer for at least one of the shoots every
series. As a former model himself he has a unique insight
into what’s needed on both sides of the camera.
He performs an important role in developing and coaching
the skills from the girls and has a keen eye for new talent.
Nigel’s fashion career started when he was discovered
by The Clothes Show in the 80s. His mother,
a former ‘Miss Sri Lanka’ had entered him
for the TV model talent show. The opportunity led to a
successful career spanning a decade and taking him across
the globe, modelling for giants such as Armani, Valentino
and Gaultier.
After 10 years
of modelling he turned his passion, photography, into
his business, and by the late nineties he’d opened
his own studio in New York.
As a highly sought after photographer he now contributes
to a wide variety of publications including GQ, Elle Girl
and Playboy, and for clients such as Ralph Lauren, Saks
Fifth Avenue and Bulgari.
Nigel lives in New York with his baby son and model wife
Cristen, who now works alongside him as a talented make-up
artist.
