Chillingham Castle, Northumberland

History
At first a 12th century stronghold, Chillingham
became a fully fortified Castle in the 14th century. Steeped in
the Nation's history it occupied a strategic position during Northumberland's
bloody border feuds, often besieged and often enjoying the patronage
of royal visitors, including Henry III in 1255
and Edward I in 1298 to Edward, Prince
of Wales in 1872 and members of the Royal Family today.
In Tudor days there were additions but the underlying mediaeval
character, detail and strength have always been retained.
The 18th and 19th centuries saw decorative landscape refinements
and extravagancies including gardens and grounds laid out by Sir
Jeffrey Wyatville, fresh from his triumphs at
Windsor Castle. Since the 13th century, the same family,
the Greys have been living there in harmony with ghosts,
which is currently home to is home to Sir Humphrey and
Lady Wakefield.
Phenomena
The most famous apparition is the 'blue boy'
who would cry and moan in agony or maybe fear. The noises could
be traced to a spot near a passageway cut through a ten foot wall.
Behind the wall the bones of a young boy and fragments of blue
clothing were discovered. Another ghost, Lady Mary Berkeley,
searches for her husband, who ran off with her sister. Lady Mary,
desolate and broken hearted lived in the castle by herself with
only her baby girl as a companion. The rustle of her dress is
said to be heard as she passes by in the turret stairs.
Investigation
Early on, a strange shadow in seen at one of the castle's window
and soon after a strange hissing sound is picked up, which leaves
the team shaken. Derek soon picks up on the spirit of a boy who
is trapped behind a wall. While possessed by the spirit he howls
'let everyone know...leave me alone ....help me...behind the wall'.
Builders had found the bones of a child in the fireplace. Later,
during a solo vigil, Karl picks up some strange sounds and a box
appears to move of its own accord.
