Souter Lighthouse, Northumberland

History
Souter Lighthouse overlooks the cliffs of Marsden Bay,
high above the rocks and notorious currents of the Whitburn
Steel that have wrecked dozens of ships and claimed the
lives of many mariners. Originally the intention was to build
the lighthouse on Souter Point which is mid way
between the rivers of Tyne and Wear, but it was then decided it
would be more visible from Lizard Point, a mile further north.
It retained the name, Souter lighthouse, as there was already in existence a Lizard Point lighthouse in Cornwall. Souter lighthouse was built in 1871 but much of what you see in the building today dates from the 1950's when the main engines where installed. Although the lighthouse is now under the ownership of The National Trust it is still in working order was once home to Grace Darling's niece Isabelle in 1881.
Phenomena
Ghost tales surrounding the lighthouse are many and include a
Poltergeist infestation in the Kitchens area and the spectre of
a past Lighthouse Keeper who roams the corridors and has even
been seen walking through a wall. There are also reports of the
ghost of a lady, and a pitman who worked at the nearby mine. Loud
bangs and footsteps have been heard all through the structure.
Investigation
Derek begins in the engine room, where he picks up the
spirits of two men, Thomas and William and also hears a voice
telling him 'to go to the water'. He later connects with a disgruntled
mariner called Eriksson, possibly the victim of a shipwreck. During
the night vigils Derek senses the spirit of Isabella and also
a black dog which accompanies her. He also detects a number of
intense and depressing souls in the buildings offices. In the
kitchen, Derek connects with an entity, unhappy with the team's
presence. At this moment strange EMF readings are recorded and
an appliance in the room appears to switch itself on.
