Hilarious wedding blunders

And how not to have a memorable wedding for all the wrong reasons.

No wedding is complete without a couple of amusing mishaps. No matter how much you plan. Imperfection, slight or otherwise, is virtually inevitable - so celebrate with us a few hilarious real life wedding blunders from the brides-to-be on the Confetti forums.

Here are some more of our favourites…

Kate said: ‘When I got married, 8 years ago, I wore a strapless dress with a wide a-line skirt. We married in a 12th century church in Surrey and the aisle was not very wide (they probably wore simpler dresses in those days.) I'd hung floral pew ends on every pew so it was even narrower. I’d lost a bit of weight since having my dress altered to fit me, not intentionally but just from running around so much with all the organisation. As we walked down the aisle together, my new husband accidentally trod on the hem of my dress and, because it was strapless, and a little looser than it should have been, the top slipped it right down, giving everyone in the back two rows got a good eyeful of my bra, which is just as well because I nearly went braless…’

‘Jane’ said: ‘We had specifically asked for non alcoholic summer punch to be served at their drinks reception. It was only after giving it to all the children, some of whom were on their second glass, that they were told there was vodka in it...’

‘Rebecca’ was so caught up with last-minute plans that she completely forgot to write her vows, she said: 'During the ceremony we were asked to recite them, whereupon my fiancé said something lovely while all I could do was to freeze in terror. Once the groom had finished, there was a pause and then the registrar looked over... and I blurted out, "What he said!" and everyone laughed, including him luckily!'

Amanda had a nervous bridesmaid who fainted during the service and hit her head on the end of the pew, knocking herself out!

Emily told us: ‘A friend of mine was so nervous that she started drinking champagne as she was getting ready in the morning. She’d only planned to have a few sips to give her some much needed Dutch courage but ended up drinking most of the bottle on an empty stomach. When she zigzagged down the aisle it was all too obvious how much she had had to drink and her fiancé started laughing uncontrollably when he saw that she was clearly very drunk. As she got to the top of the aisle she went to whisper something naughty in his ear but the registrar’s microphone picked it up and we all heard something we shouldn’t have!’

The moral of these stories, if there is one, is to keep your sense of humour, as no matter how perfect we plan our weddings, they may not always turn out as planned. If there’s one final tip for you it’s not to drink too much on the day. You want to enjoy it but you want to remember it too!
